is reporting that October wine sales increased 7% over September. This isn’t uncommon as the last three months of the year typically account for at least a third of all wine sales in a calendar year. The most meaningful number is that October 2009 wine sales were 4% higher than October 2008.

Statistics are by dollar volume, a meaningful statistic for wineries.

Mark Twain popularized the phrase, “There are three types of lies: lies, dammed lies, and statistics.”

However, in a recovering economy, it sure is nice to get some good news now and again.
