Datz Deli in South Tampa offers a great wine experience

The residents of South Tampa long awaited the arrival of the much talked about Datz Deli, and it looks like they are not disappointed now that Datz is up and running. Each time I have driven past Datz, the parking lot has been full and when I have ventured in, the place has been abuzz. Datz is reminiscent of a gourmet city deli, comfortable enough to swing by to pick up a quick lunch, but with an extensive enough menu of well thought out soups, salads and sandwiches to keep your interest for an evening out. And while you are at Datz, you cannot help but to peruse the wide selection of beer and wine, enough to keep any connoisseur interested. With over 100 wines on their list and and an impressive list of specialty brews, Datz seems to have something for everyone.
The other day I stopped in to check out the wine selections and was pleasantly surprised to find wine flights on Datz’ menu. Flights of wine are an excellent opportunity to try a few small pours of different wines, sometimes from a single region or sometimes a single varietal from different regions. Datz had a couple of interesting flights, and I found a great wine on their list through this exploration. Datz is serving the 2006 Stags’ Leap Petite Syrah by the glass. This is a wonderful, food-friendly wine with rich, dark fruit, an excellent structure and an elegance that comes from the blending of some other Rhone varietals to soften the edges of this young Petite Syrah. And all of you wine lovers, take note of this - Datz offers this, as they do all of their wines, to their customers at retail price. So, you can purchase a bottle to go, or open a bottle to stay and enjoy their extensive list without the usual restaurant markup.
