In a French state of mind

I recently attended the Wine Entrepreneur Conference (WEC) in Washington DC - in a word, WOW! Laurent Guinand and his team at GiraMondo Ventures put on a fantastic event that spoke to vintners and wine professionals alike. From the panelists to the participants, I was impressed with the caliber of people who chose to attend and with… Continue

Dream on (favorite drinking reds)

I have this recurring dream. It's almost mid-day. We wake up late, and haven't yet eaten. So after stopping at a tiny charcuterie for some sausages, marinated olives, a round of local bread – tasting of freshly risen dough, crusted on the outside, silky on the inside – and a bottle of wine, we follow a winding brook at the foot of a steep hill outside the village, in search of… Continue

As life after the holidays settles back into its normal high-stress level, I tame my tension with daily wine rations - its inherently soothing qualities make me slow down and savor. If you need to (re)unite with your wine Zen, perhaps some 2010 resolutions are in order.

Resolution No. 1

Go organic. Maybe the chemicals polluting our wine are polluting our minds. Support the wineries making an effort to avoid the use of pesticides, fungicides and herbicides on… Continue
