Our dinner club had a wine theme and All six courses had wine as an ingredient: Chocolate Merlot Cake, a salad with a Champagne vinigarette, etc. During the Appetizer hour we had a blind wine tasting. We had a card with 6 wine flavor descriptions taken right from the bottle and we had to figure out which wine went with which and had about 6 wines we had to description. It was a lot of fun.
That sounds fun, I 'll have to try it soon!
Using Pinot as the basis for a pairing dinner is always fun -so verstile... we have been doing "movie nights" for years. Any italian movie you love - old or new- with a pot-luck contributions (you supply the italian wine selections), is an easy and inexpensive way to entertain, especially in the winter when friends are looking for fun things to do! Another great film night would be to duplicate "Babette's Feast"! Make sure you show the movies first, then eat after - otherwise your guests will surely fall asleep!

This may be an out-dated theme, but a couple of years ago I attended a dinner party with a "Sideways" theme. Each course was paired with one of the wines mentioned in the movie just after the specific scene was shown on a screen placed in the front of room.
